BYU vs. San Diego State – Game of the Week

Check out the link from the Bleacher Report on Wednesday night’s game of the year in the Mountain West Conference. It’s being hailed as the biggest game in the history of the Marriott Center.

It’s a bigger deal than Duke vs. UNC

I like how the writer, Lafe Peavler points out the fact that the Marriott Center is the 4th largest arena in college basketball.

It should be a great one tomorrow night. If Jimmer goes off for 30 or more and the Cougars win, he will become the front runner for player of the year. ESPN – already in love with Jimmer and interested in promoting the Cougars since they broadcast them starting next year – will go even crazier over the guy and will prop him all the way to Player of the Year.

As great as the game will be, it’s not really a make or break for either team. They will face off for a second time in San Diego and it’s possible both teams could still lose a conference game to another opponent. Both teams will realistically end up with a couple losses. So the talk about a 1 seed in the tournament is somewhat far fetched. However, at this point both squads have a realistic shot at a 2 or 3 seed. Joe Lunardi has SDSU as a #2 and BYU as a #3 in his “Bracketology” as of 1/24.
