Coach Patterson goes Public Relations during TCU bye week and Week 12 Preview

Gary Patterson is no dummy. He realizes his team is gonna need a little help to reach the national championship game. So he’s hitting the campaign trail. It’s ridiculous that the system forces a head football coach to have to do something like this but I give the guy a lot of credit. Check out the link from Andrea Adelson about Patterson’s big day with ESPN on Friday. Andrea Adelson is the ESPN blogger that covers all the non-AQ schools.

As for the other team trying to crack the top 2 in the BCS rankings –
Boise State will face one of their better opponents this year when they take on Fresno State Friday night. The Bulldogs are 6-3 and a decent team. They are somewhat of a nationally recognized program and should help Boise State pad their resume a bit. I like Boise State by at least 2 touchdowns at home.

I don’t mean to belittle Fresno State at all with that prediction. In fact anyone who has ever seen a Fresno State game and has caught a glimpse of their head coach, Pat Hill, you know how intense he is and how hard his teams play. What you may not know is that he has now been at Fresno State for 13 years. The addition of Fresno State to the Mountain West Conference next year will greatly improve the league.

As for these Friday night games for Boise State, it will be interesting to see how things shake out with The Mountain TV Network next year. One of the main reasons that network was started was the MWC (aka-BYU) did not want to play so many odd-ball Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night games. That’s all ESPN was offering at the time and so the MWC opted for a different route. Not sure if that worked out too well. We’ll see what happens with Boise State and the others joining the MWC next year and BYU leaving.

I touched on BYU and Utah earlier in the week but just to re-cap:

Utah will need to find some offense against San Diego State. The Aztecs have a pro-caliber quarterback in Ryan Lindley. It would be great for the Utes if Shaky Smithson could break one on special teams and snap the team out of it’s funk.

BYU should steam roll New Mexico at home. The fans could be chanting, “Utah sucks!” by half-time.
